๐Ÿ’Ž Topgolf Coming To Dayton? (Issue #32)

PLUS: Saying Goodbye To Flyboyโ€™s Deli

Good Morning,

And welcome to another issue of Miami Valley Memo. Every week we share events, live shows, and news curated for the Miami Valley.

Words canโ€™t do Mondayโ€™s eclipse justice. All I can say is that it was one of the most amazing things Iโ€™ve ever seen. Having watched it with others, there was a unique feeling of collective awe and wonder, unlike anything Iโ€™d experienced before.

Now thatโ€™s past, you may be wondering what to do with those glasses. While theyโ€™re no longer of use to us, they could be for someone else in the future.

Astronomers Without Borders is collecting used glasses to give to underserved kids around the world for future eclipses. Through April, their drop-box is open Mon-Fri from 6 am - 7 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am - 3 pm at Montgomery Countyโ€™s Recycling Center. Consider donating yours and helping give someone else that awesome experience we got this Monday.

Enough of me waning on (thatโ€™s a moon joke folks), hereโ€™s todayโ€™s rundown:

  • Upcoming events with a heads up for some likely quick sellers

  • Live shows to catch this weekend

  • Our goodbye to Flyboyโ€™s Deli whose last day open is April 20th

  • Plans showing Topgolf is a likely addition to Centervilleโ€™s Cornerstone South development

Letโ€™s get to it!

๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ LOCAL NEWS

๐Ÿฅช Flyboy's Deli To Close April 20th

On Tuesday, April 9, Flyboy's Deli announced they would be closing their Oakwood location after April 20. Having closed their downtown Dayton location last fall, this marks the end of the beloved deli's journey.

Why close? Serious medical challenges for the owners, husband and wife duo, Steve and Eunice Crandall. Eunice tragically passed away from cancer earlier this year. Steve is in a long-term care facility, recovering from a major stroke he suffered last year.

With this loss and ongoing challenges, the family understandably chose to close Flyboy's.

Quick history: In 2013, Steve and Eunice combined their passions to open a New York-style deli in the Miami Valley. Eunice had experience running delis on the East Coast, and Steve, being a retired Air Force Colonel and Flyboy himself, brought his love for aviation.

After opening, Flyboy's quickly became a hit. Over the years, they won multiple awards for their sandwiches and built quite a following. As long-time readers may recall, they were one of the first local spotlights we wrote last fall.

Our hearts go out to the Crandall family, and our thanks to everyone behind Flyboy's. They gave us, and many across the Miami Valley, amazing food and tremendous memories. We plan to pay them one last visit before the 20th and encourage you to do the same. [Dayton.com]

๐ŸŒ๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Topgolf At Cornerstone South?

Topgolf could be coming to Dayton as part of the new Cornerstone South project along I-675. Led by Oberer Companies, the project aims to start in 2025 and will take 3-5 years to complete.

This $93 million investment encompasses 72 acres of mixed-use land, promising a blend of dining, lodging, and leisure. Plans show potential for three restaurants, two hotels, and an entertainment venue resembling Topgolf.

How does it resemble? Well, the plans show a fenced-off green space stretching 235 yards and 72 hitting bays โ€” kind of a clear giveaway. Although not officially confirmed, this would mark Topgolf's expansion into the Dayton area.

I remember when Cornerstone North was just a forest with an abandoned house at its center. Now, it's a booming development and a smashing success for Centerville. Since opening in 2009 with Costco, it has added major attractions like Kroger, Cabela's, and Cooper's Hawk.

Centerville anticipates this development will mirror the success of its northern counterpart. With Topgolf, we're sure it will, as folks across the Miami Valley will likely flock there instead of driving south to West Chester. [Dayton Daily News]
